pop goes the ankle

Shannon seems to be the only one posting about injuries in the blogposse that I hang with and I was beginning to feel left out.

So I decided to sprain my ankle.

Scene 1: late departure from work, miss last bus out to church, wait at Dixon and Kipling for the 58 Weston, in a blizzard, decide to grab a tea to prevent hypothermia, prance over small snow bank, misjudge mound's exact shape, land...askew.

A sickening pop, an even more sickening feeling (complete with dizziness, nausea, hot/cold flashes, throbbing, and delirious laughter through tears), a bus ride and a 10 minute jaunt - why?! - to TACF, and I was able to lean on Mel's hug, Sticks' donation of Kleenex, and my Extremely Hot and Attentive Boyfriend's piggypack to Firehall later that night.

Scene 2: wake up, swing legs over side of bed, traverse to bathroom, blood rushing to already swollen ankle produces sharp, stabbing feeling, vision of bathroom blurs, crawl way back to safety of bed.

Unfortunately the injury prevented me from attending a bridal shower for the Illustrious Kate Dias-Soon-To-Be-Graham and landed me in a hospital waiting room for two hours with my dad later that afternoon. Blasted snow drift.

b&e

Yesterday, home sick from work, I was lying in bed at around 11:00 a.m. when I heard the sound of keys at my door.

Strange.

Door opens.

Andrew's voice: "Hello?"
Me: "Hello?"
A.V.: "What? Hi!"
Me: "Hi..."
A.V.: "What are you doing here?"
Me: "Um, what are you doing here?"

The conversational ping-pong match continued, out of sight of each other (Andrew not moving from the door and me not moving from the bed), until we had ascertained that my sick day had just foiled Andrew's stealthy bouquet-of-flowers drop.

And why a bouquet of flowers, you ask? Just because. I would have swooned if I had not already been lying down.

A vase filled with water, two cups of tea and a serendipitous mid-morning chat later and I was back in bed (having taken lots of vitamin C, because he told me to), drifting off to sleep with a grin on my face.

quelle surprise

Yoinked from A.J.'s blog:
You Are Likely a First Born

At your darkest moments, you feel guilty.
At work and school, you do best when you're researching.
When you love someone, you tend to agree with them often.

In friendship, you are considerate and compromising.
Your ideal careers are: business, research, counseling, promotion, and speaking.
You will leave your mark on the world with discoveries, new information, and teaching people to dream.

Likely?

This totally makes me think of Angela. In fact, at first, I thought it might have been Angela's company.

30 before 30

I had a list. My list was called "Things To Do Before I'm Married". It included such goals as getting my poetry published, teaching English overseas, and reading the Bible through. I think I came up with it when I was 18 or 19, when I must have viewed marriage as a type of death...because most (normal) people have a list of things to do before they die and this makes more sense. And it gives much more time. So, I suppose I'm just an overacheiver. But I digress...

That list is finished (I found it recently, checked everything off...mused...) but a few months ago, while watching Miami Ink (see previous post), I discovered a new List-Of-Things-To-Do-Before-A-Specific-Time-In-The-Future: "30 before 30".

First, apologies to any of my readers who have already made 30 and are now depressed. I suggest making a "40 by 40". Or "50 by 50". But then you're running the risk of having too much crap to do before you're retired... I apologize, nonetheless.

la libertine

OK, so I did this quiz (courtesy of Linda Hope Cho, original link from Adele Richards) and although I'd like to argue about the results...I realize I cannot. I especially liked one of the questions which asked your dating habit - I checked "intense and adorably clingy Tuesday" as opposed to "casual Friday night".

The times, they have a-changed.

forget norway

For fourteen days, mon amour, known affectionately to blogland as "A.", will be 3,555 miles away from me in a place called Stavanger, in a land called Norway.

Pardon my momentary (and not at all usual...I have many Norwegian friends and have long wanted to visit Norway for myself) distaste for said country. The picture above, for those not in the know, is from a website called Weebls Stuff regarding a song about Kenya and, by very odd connection, Norway.

He will be leading worship for an international pastors conference. He's nervous about it, silly rabbit. He's amazingly talented, anointed and charismatic. What's not to love?

Back off, girls.
